The short answer

The Google Pixel 10a is our first choice if 128GB of storage is enough. Its $549 unlocked price buys the same seven-year OS and security policy as Google's more expensive phones, measured from its March 2026 arrival. That puts its policy horizon in March 2033. Choose the Pixel 11 if you need 256GB: at the prices we checked, it costs only $50 more than a 256GB Pixel 10a and extends that horizon to August 2033.

The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G costs less upfront, with a shorter policy and quarterly security updates today. The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is the repair-focused alternative for compatible networks: you can replace its battery yourself, and Fairphone promises software support and spare parts to 2033. It does not work on Verizon, and its US store showed it out of stock when checked.

Our comparison uses US unlocked configurations and manufacturer documentation checked on November 6, 2026. Prices are before tax, shipping and trade-in. We ranked remaining software coverage, then checked how each battery can be replaced.

Google Pixel 10a: the sensible starting point

Images: Google

The Pixel 10a is the least expensive current Pixel in this shortlist with a support horizon beyond 2032. Its seven-year policy applies to both OS upgrades, which bring Android changes, and security patches, which address vulnerabilities. You do not have to buy a Pro model to get that policy.

It has Tensor G4, 8GB RAM, a 6.3-inch display and a composite back on an aluminum frame. Google lists a 5,100mAh typical battery and a 5,000mAh minimum. Wireless charging is included. See Google's Pixel 10a specifications.

The most useful comparison is the storage upgrade. Google's US configurator lists 128GB at $549 and 256GB at $649. If you already keep most photos in cloud storage and 128GB comfortably covers your apps and downloads, keep the $150 difference between the base Pixel 10a and Pixel 11. If you need 256GB now, the Pixel 11 becomes a much stronger alternative.

Battery replacement remains a repair job. Google's Pixel 10a repair manual requires removal of the glued back cover and inner housing before reaching the battery. Plan on a service repair unless you already have the skills and tools for that work.

Google Pixel 11: worth the extra $50 at 256GB

Images: Google

The Pixel 11 has the latest support endpoint we can calculate to the month among these four phones: August 2026 first availability plus seven years gives August 2033. That is five months beyond the Pixel 10a. Google lists both first-sale months.

The base model starts with 256GB and 12GB RAM. It also has Tensor G6 and a separate 5x telephoto camera, while the Pixel 10a has Tensor G4 and two rear cameras. The extra storage is useful immediately if your current phone is nearly full. See the Pixel 11 specification sheet.

At the US unlocked price of $699, subtract the $649 price of the 256GB Pixel 10a and the premium is $50. That is the configuration we would choose if we already needed that much storage. If 128GB is enough, the $150 premium buys hardware extras as well as five more support months. Keep the cheaper Pixel 10a when you have no use for those extras.

The Pixel 11 uses a glass back and sealed construction, with a multi-step battery procedure in Google's repair manual. Both Pixels participate in Google's genuine-parts and repair program. Check the parts and local service quote for the exact model before treating a future battery repair as a fixed cost.

Samsung Galaxy A37 5G: spend less, accept a shorter calendar

Images: Samsung

The A37's $439.99 US unlocked price is $109.01 below the 128GB Pixel 10a at this check. Samsung's US launch terms specify up to six Android and One UI generations and up to six years of security updates from first global launch. With the 2026 launch, think approximately spring 2032. The wording does not give a new buyer six fresh years.

Samsung currently places the A37 in its quarterly security-update group. That means its published patch schedule is less frequent than the monthly group, even though it has several years of support left. If your employer requires a monthly update policy, check its approved-device list before buying.

The US 128GB model has 6GB RAM, a 6.7-inch display and a 5,000mAh typical battery. It is the large-screen option alongside the two 6.3-inch Pixels. See Samsung's US A37 specifications.

The A57 is the obvious alternative within Samsung. It has 8GB RAM at 128GB, but Samsung gives it the same up-to-six-generation, six-year policy. Spend more if you want that hardware; it does not extend the stated support window. For the A37, use Samsung's repair-service route to get a battery quote rather than assuming a replacement-part price includes labor.

Fairphone Gen. 6+: the choice for replaceable parts

Images: Fairphone

The Fairphone's 4,415mAh battery is user-removable; the back cover uses screws, and Fairphone says 12 parts are user-replaceable. The US specification page lists a battery at $39.95, a display at $89.95 and spare-parts availability to 2033. These are listed part prices, with shipping extra, rather than a prediction of your total repair bill.

The screw-fastened back puts routine battery replacement in the owner's hands. The replaceable USB-C module is also useful if that connector is damaged.

The 256GB configuration has 12GB RAM and a microSD slot for additional storage. Fairphone promises six major Android upgrades from Android 16 and software support to 2033. Its US specification page gives 2032 for the major-upgrade promise and 2033 for overall support, so those dates should not be collapsed into one guarantee. The exact final US security month is not stated there.

Carrier compatibility can rule it out before repairability matters. Fairphone lists AT&T and T-Mobile support with limitations, excludes Verizon and its network-based providers, and says T-Mobile users must use a physical SIM. Read the carrier-compatibility matrix for your provider, especially if you rely on Wi-Fi calling. At $649.99, it also makes sense to compare the $699 Pixel 11 if easy self-repair is not a priority. Fairphone's price excludes the charger and USB cable, which its US box-contents list omits.

A long update policy needs a battery plan

Google's battery guidance uses about 1,000 charge cycles and 80% remaining capacity as replacement reference points for Pixel 8a and later. A cycle means an accumulated full discharge and recharge, so two half discharges count as one cycle.

At one complete cycle per day, 1,000 divided by 365 is about 2.7 years. At half a cycle per day, it is about 5.5 years. Heat and use also affect aging. Over a support period longer than six years, access to a replacement battery deserves as much attention as the update policy.

There is a software detail worth knowing, too. Google says Battery health assistance on Pixel 9a and later cannot be switched off. It adjusts maximum voltage in stages as the battery ages and can reduce runtime and alter charging speed. A larger advertised battery today does not guarantee unchanged capacity or charging behavior throughout the support period.

When the recommendation changes

Already own a supported phone? Check its end date before replacing it for a new update promise. A purchase is not required to benefit from years of support already included with your current device.

For an older Pixel deal, compare the actual discount against the calendar you give up. Google's store listed the 128GB Pixel 9a at $499, only $50 below the Pixel 10a. Its April 2025 first-sale month implies April 2032 coverage under the same policy, eleven months earlier. The 128GB Pixel 10 was $599 despite its August 2032 horizon. Those prices make neither our first choice for this particular buying question.

Want Samsung's flagship features? The S26 has Samsung's seven-generation, seven-year policy from global launch in 2026. It is a legitimate alternative if you prefer its hardware or software. A premium price is not necessary to reach a similar 2033 horizon on a Pixel.

Need an iPhone? Apple's security-release log documents updates for older models, including iPhone 11 in the current iOS 27.2 release. That is useful evidence of delivered support. It is not a published US end date for a newly purchased iPhone 18 Pro. We leave that future endpoint unknown rather than importing an EU or UK minimum into a US comparison. If iOS is a requirement, that platform requirement reasonably takes priority over this Android shortlist.

How we made the comparison

We screened nine phone options using manufacturer policies, US configurations, repair manuals and parts information. We separated support duration from patch frequency, calculated the Pixel horizons from Google's US availability dates, and kept quoted battery capacity separate from measured runtime. The recommendations follow the needs described above, with repair access assessed separately from future app performance.
