Which small standing desk should you buy?
The Desky Dual Mini 32 x 20 is our choice when depth is the constraint. The Branch Duo 36 x 24 gives you a deeper work surface without a four-foot-wide top, provided its 28-inch minimum suits your seated setup. If a square 30 x 30-inch top fits, the Progressive Mini Ryzer costs substantially less than either.
For a wider desk, choose the shallow IKEA MITTZON for its low adjustment range and included cable storage, or the Vari Essential Split Top 48 x 24 for a lower posted price and a larger 24-inch-deep work area. Start with the shape of the space and your seated working height.

Desky Dual Mini: the shallowest top
Consider Desky beside a bed or along a wall where another four inches of desktop depth would obstruct the room. Its 32 x 20-inch laminate top is the shallowest here. The feet are 19.6 inches long, so the base does not erase that advantage by projecting beyond the nominal top depth. Leave the moving desk and its cables clearance from surrounding furniture. The frame lowers to 23.6 inches before the top is fitted. With the specified 1-inch laminate, that makes an approximately 24.6-inch working surface. Your keyboard sits on the finished surface, so compare that height with your existing desk. The US manual also explains how to recalibrate the display to show the desktop height. Desky manual.
The price is the catch. Our white laminate, matte black frame, 32 x 20-inch configuration with grommets is listed at $619. The optional Mini Cable & Power Tray starts at $49.90, bringing those posted prices to $668.90 together. The premium buys a shallower shape. Branch Duo: a small desk with a deeper work surface
The 36 x 24-inch Duo is a useful middle size. It gives you four more inches of depth than the smallest Desky without requiring the 47 to 48-inch width of the IKEA and Vari. We would choose it for a single-screen setup with a keyboard and room left for a notebook, after checking the actual dimensions of those objects. Its 28-inch minimum is the reason to rule it out early. If your current seated work surface is 25 inches high and suits your setup, the Duo cannot reproduce it. A smaller top does not compensate for the wrong height. Its upper setting is 47.3 inches, and the paddle stores two heights. Duo specification sheet.
The rounded laminate top, cable notch and absence of a low connecting crossbar give the Duo a less crowded silhouette. That is a design preference, not a claim about wobble. Its 10-year desk warranty is useful, but Branch's policy restricts third-party products used with its furniture. Check that policy before building a setup around an accessory from another brand. Progressive Mini Ryzer: the inexpensive narrow option
The Mini Ryzer is the most affordable selected desk at its current $283.99 sale price, in Warm White with a white frame. Its 30-inch width also makes it the narrowest. Choose it for a square position where a wider rectangular desk would run into another piece of furniture. Mini Ryzer configuration.
The square top is also the reason it is not our default small-room choice. Thirty by thirty inches gives you 900 square inches of desktop, compared with 640 on the smallest Desky. It is two inches narrower but ten inches deeper, with about 41% more tabletop area. That can be welcome space for equipment, or an awkward projection into a walkway. These are desktop areas, not measurements of the room each setup requires.
A single motor raises its central steel column, which attaches to a broad floor plate. The FLT-01 manual specifies a 23.1 to 48.6-inch bare-frame range; adding the maker's 1-inch top gives an approximately 24.1 to 49.6-inch finished height. Do not assume the brand's general 15-year desk warranty applies here. The Mini Ryzer and FLT-01 are explicitly covered for eight years. Progressive warranty.
IKEA MITTZON: cable storage with a low minimum
The electric MITTZON in the shallow 47.25 x 23.625-inch size gives you a low 24.375-inch minimum, two height memories and an included felt cable tray. Our birch veneer and black combination, article 995.261.45, is listed at $529.99. Choose this specific depth: the similarly named 31.5-inch-deep version changes the room fit considerably. The main veneer panel is 18.875 inches deep. A separate 4.75-inch rear module completes the desk and provides compartments and cable access. You get somewhere to put a power strip, but the strip is sold separately. Main panel; rear module.
This is a different allocation of space from the Duo. MITTZON is about 31% wider, yet its main veneer panel has only about 3% more area: 47.25 x 18.875 is roughly 892 square inches, against the Duo's 864. The rear module adds useful surface and storage, with power connections accessible from above. For spreading out paper, we prefer a continuous 24-inch-deep work surface. Lay out your equipment before deciding which trade suits you.
IKEA sells the exact main panel separately for $70, so the main work surface can be replaced independently of the frame and rear module. The desk carries a 10-year limited warranty. Replacement panel; US warranty.
Vari Essential Split Top: a wider surface below $400
The Vari makes sense when a 48-inch desk fits and you want a conventional 24-inch-deep work area for less money than the Desky, Branch or IKEA. The Hazel Wood and white model, SKU 401512, is currently $369.99. Its two-piece laminate top has a visible join. We would favor it over the more expensive options when width is available and that seam is acceptable. Vari configuration.
The finished range is 27.5 to 47.2 inches, so it shares the Duo's limitation for setups that need a much lower seated surface. Its single motor drives the other leg through a transmission shaft, and the controller saves four heights. The manual shows that shaft's assembly and protective cover. Vari assembly and controls.
Cable wraps are included; Vari's Cable Management Tray is not compatible. The Essential has a three-year limited warranty, and after the first year the owner pays the specified shipping costs on a warranty replacement and any requested return. Labor is excluded. Measure the space the desk must move through
Mark the top's width and depth on the floor, then add space for the chair to move back. Open nearby doors and drawers. Include any monitor arm or cable plug that projects behind the desk. A tabletop rectangle alone cannot tell you whether the complete workstation will fit.
Allow the clearance in the chosen desk's instructions. Vari requires its edges to stay at least one inch from surrounding surfaces or obstacles. A 48-inch Vari therefore needs at least 50 inches between two side walls, before other access needs are considered. Its manual also warns that a reset moves below a stored lower limit, so a cabinet under the desk can still obstruct that procedure. Vari clearance and reset instructions.
Measure the floor-to-top height of a seated work surface that already suits your chair and keyboard arrangement. Compare that number with the finished heights above. Then check knee space underneath any frame, tray or drawer. Check those clearances at your seated setting, where space under the top is smallest.
How we made these choices
We compared US configurations, manufacturer dimension sheets, assembly manuals, warranty terms and current posted prices. We prioritized room shape and finished height, then the surface layout and ownership terms. Motor count and a large capacity figure do not establish how much a desk wobbles.
For heavy equipment, two documentation conflicts need resolving with the maker. Desky's page and sheet list 330.7 pounds, while its linked manual specifies 308 pounds including the desktop. MITTZON's manual lists 176 pounds in its specifications and 154 pounds in its operating instructions. These documents do not establish a consistent limit for the exact setup. Confirm the applicable load with the manufacturer before choosing either for heavy equipment. Desky manual; MITTZON manual.
